Understanding ELDT & the FMCSA registry

What ELDT is, and why "registered" matters

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is the federal standard every new commercial driver must complete before the CDL skills test or certain endorsement exams. The rule that matters most: training only counts if it comes from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR). Training from an unregistered source won't be accepted — which is exactly why "FMCSA-registered" is the first thing to check before paying for any online course.

How your certificate reaches the DMV

When you finish an ELDT365 course, your completion is submitted directly to the FMCSA's federal database. Your state DMV pulls your training record from that same database — so there's nothing to print, mail, or hand over. It's typically visible within hours.

Which course do I need?

Combination vehicles like tractor-trailers require Class A theory. Straight trucks and buses use Class B. Moving up from a Class B is the B-to-A upgrade, and hauling hazardous materials adds the HAZMAT endorsement.

ELDT requirements by state

The theory requirement is federal and identical nationwide, but each state's DMV handles testing and licensing differently. Find your state:

Questions before you enroll

Is ELDT365 FMCSA approved?
Yes. ELDT365 is a registered provider in the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. Your completion is reported directly to the FMCSA and accepted in all 50 states.
Will the DMV accept my certificate?
Yes. Because we report your completion to the FMCSA registry, your record is on file with the federal database every state DMV checks — there's nothing for you to submit manually.
Do I still need behind-the-wheel training?
This covers the FMCSA-required theory portion. You'll still need behind-the-wheel training from a licensed CDL school to complete your full ELDT requirements.
What if I'm not satisfied?
We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied within 7 days and haven't completed the course, request a full refund under our published refund policy.
How long does it take?
Most students finish in about an hour. It's fully self-paced, so you can go faster or slower and pick up where you left off.
