Who has to take this?
Every person an employer designates to supervise CDL drivers: dispatchers, lead drivers, foremen, safety staff, managers. 49 CFR 382.603 applies to any employer with CDL drivers, including public works fleets, school districts and one-truck carriers.
Is it really only once?
Yes. The regulation states that recurrent training for supervisory personnel is not required. Many employers refresh anyway; the rule does not demand it.
Does it have to be 60 + 60 minutes?
The rule says at least 60 minutes on alcohol misuse and at least 60 minutes on controlled substances. This course paces each module to meet that, and your certificate states the time completed.
Is this filed with the FMCSA?
No. There is no federal filing for supervisor training. You receive a certificate to keep in the supervisor's file, which is what an auditor asks for.
Can I buy it for several supervisors at once?
