My ELDT provider can't file to the registry. What now?

If your provider can no longer submit to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, the DMV cannot see your training, no matter what certificate you hold. Check your own record at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov first. If it is not there, the only fix is to complete the theory again with a provider that is actively filing. ELDT365 is listed on the registry under its own registration and files every completion the moment you finish; the theory is $20 and most courses take under 2 hours.

Check your record first

Go to tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov and use the driver lookup with your license number, state, and date of birth. If your completion is there, you are fine, regardless of what has happened to the provider since. If it is not there, keep reading.

Why a provider stops being able to file

Every provider on the registry files under a provider ID that FMCSA can suspend or remove: for a failed audit, an instructor who no longer qualifies, a lapsed self-certification, or a change of ownership that was never updated. When that happens the provider's API access is revoked and nothing it submits is accepted. Some providers keep selling courses for a while anyway. A certificate PDF from a provider that cannot file is a receipt, not a record.

Why you cannot transfer a completion

Only the provider that trained you can file your record, and only while it is in good standing. Another provider cannot submit training it did not deliver, and FMCSA does not accept certificates as proof. That is why the fix is to redo the theory, not to forward paperwork.

The fastest way to get filed

  1. Pick a provider that is listed on the registry today and files electronically on completion. Ask them directly: "Are you filing right now?" A working provider will say yes without hedging.
  2. Complete the theory. At ELDT365, Class A or B is about 2 hours, HAZMAT about 45 minutes, in English or Spanish, for $20.
  3. Confirm at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov the same day. ELDT365 files the moment you finish, so your record is there before you close the laptop.

Getting your money back from the old provider

Ask in writing for a refund on the grounds that the product could not be delivered as described. Keep the email. If they refuse, a chargeback through your card issuer citing "service not rendered" usually succeeds, since the provider cannot show a registry record. Do this in parallel with getting refiled; do not wait on it.

Questions drivers ask

Is ELDT365 filing right now?

Yes. ELDT365 files under its own FMCSA registration and submits every completion electronically the moment a student finishes. You can verify any record at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov the same day.

Do I have to redo behind-the-wheel too?

Only if your behind-the-wheel provider is the one that lost filing. Theory and behind-the-wheel are separate records from separate providers; whichever one is missing is the one you redo.

Will the DMV accept a certificate PDF instead?

No. State licensing agencies check the federal registry, not paperwork.

How do I know a provider is legit before I pay?

Search them on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. If they are not listed, do not pay. If they are, ask whether they are actively filing and how fast.
