Why there is no hour minimum
The FMCSA rule sets a curriculum and a proficiency standard, not seat time. Early drafts of the rule had a 30-hour theory minimum, but the final rule dropped it in favor of the 80 percent assessment. That is why a focused online course finishes in hours while a classroom program can stretch to a week.
Behind-the-wheel
Also no federal hour minimum, but the provider must certify proficiency in every listed maneuver. In practice: Class A programs 3 to 8 weeks, Class B 1 to 3 weeks, B to A upgrade 1 to 2 weeks, Passenger and School Bus 2 to 6 weeks through an agency or district.
When your completion shows up
ELDT365 files theory completions to the FMCSA registry the moment you finish. Your school files behind-the-wheel when you complete it. Your state can see both immediately.
Questions drivers ask
Can I finish ELDT theory in one day?
Yes. Most ELDT365 students finish in one sitting.
Does a longer course count for more?
No. The registry records completion, not hours. A 2-hour course and a 40-hour course produce the same record.
Can I do theory and behind-the-wheel at the same time?
Yes. Many drivers do the online theory the week they start at a school.
