How to check an online ELDT provider before you pay

Look the provider up yourself on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov and make sure the name and website match the site you are paying. Then check how fast they file your certificate (the rule is by midnight of the second business day), read the refund policy, send a question to support and see who answers, read recent reviews and whether the company replies to bad ones, and confirm the course is in the language you will study in. ELDT365 passes every step, and our theory courses are $20.
Updated October 2026 · ELDT365, listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry

1. Find them on the registry yourself

Go to tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov and search the provider by name. Do not rely on a badge or a logo on their site: anyone can paste a logo. The listing should show the same business name, and it should list the exact course you need (Class A, Class B, B to A upgrade, HAZMAT, Passenger or School Bus). If the course is not on their listing, they cannot file it for you.

2. Check right before you buy, because the list changes

In December 2025 the FMCSA removed nearly 3,000 training providers from the registry and put about 4,500 more on notice. A provider that was listed last month may not be listed today. A certificate from a removed provider will not count at the DMV, so check the day you pay.

3. Ask when they file your certificate

Federal rules (49 CFR 380.717) require the provider to submit your completion by midnight of the second business day after you finish. Good providers do it the same day. Ask, or look for it on their site. If they say "within a few weeks" or will not answer, keep looking. You cannot take your CDL skills test until the record is in the registry.

4. Read the refund policy and test the support

The refund policy should be in writing and easy to find. Before you buy, send one question to their support email or chat and see how long the answer takes and whether a real person writes back. How they answer before you pay is the best preview of how they will answer if your record has a problem.

5. Read recent reviews, and the replies

Look at reviews from the last few months on an outside site, not only the ones on their homepage. Then look at the bad reviews: does the company reply and fix the problem? Every provider gets a complaint sometimes. What matters is whether someone takes care of it.

6. Make sure you can study in your language

If you study better in Spanish, check that the whole course is in Spanish, start to finish, including the quizzes. You need 80 percent on the final assessment, so a course you only half understand costs you time.

Questions drivers ask

Is a cheap ELDT course legit?

Price does not decide it. The theory curriculum is federally standardized, so a $20 course from a registered provider counts exactly the same as a $200 one. What matters is that the provider is on the registry for your course and files on time.

What if my provider was removed from the registry after I finished?

Completions that were already submitted while the provider was listed generally stay on your record. If you are unsure, check your record with your state DMV or the registry, and contact the provider in writing.

How do I know my certificate was filed?

Your provider should tell you, and your DMV can see it in the registry. ELDT365 emails you as soon as your completion is submitted.

Do I need theory and behind-the-wheel from the same provider?

No. You can take theory online from one registered provider and behind-the-wheel training from a school or employer that is registered for it.
